syllables are usually described as consisting of a center which has little or no obstruction to airflow and which sounds comparatively loud ; before and after this center

2.What is a "minimum syllable"?
it is a single vowel in isolation that are preceded or followed by silence such as /m/

3. What is the meaning of "onset" and "coda"?
oneset is consonants which preceding the center of the syllable it can be up to 3 consonants and coda are consonants which are followed after the center and they can be up to 4 consonants

4.Give examples of the following syllables:
a) a minimum syllable ɑː , ɔː, ɜː
b) onset+peak 'bar' baː 'key' kiː 'more' mɔː
c)peak+coda 'am' æm 'ought' ɔːt 'ease' iːz
d) onset+peak+coda 'ran' ræn 'sat' sæt 'fill' fIl

5.What is the defenition of the following terms:
a) phonotactics : the study of the possible phoneme combinations of a lanquage
b) consonant cluster: when we have two or more consonants together we call them a consonants cluster

6. Name the onset or different parts of it in the following single-syllable words?
/ɔː/ no onset - it is a peak
/peI/ onset is 'p' and peak is eI
/steI/ first onset is 's', second onset is 't' and peak is eI
