L2 learners’ problems arise from 2 sources L1

L2

• Problematic forms due to L1 are like I am agree(L2) من موافق هستم(L1)
*this happens because the word “موافق” in Persian acts as an adjective but the word “agree” acts as a verb. Because of this difference, L2 learners commit the abovementioned error.

• Problems regarding L2 are like Overgeneralization.
• Overgeneralization : Applying one rule (e.g. ed for past tense) to a lot of things
Example: Liked Looked Goed (over generalization)
• What is the difference between an error and a mistake?
An Error happens when one student uses a language unit wrongly without knowing.
A Mistake happens when one student uses a language unit wrongly, although he/she knows the correct form. This usually happens because the language user is tired or distracted.
Example: I thinked …..Oh I mean I thought………. (Mistake)
I am agree (error)
